What is siding?
Siding, sometimes called cladding, protects the sides of a building from rain, sleet, snow, wind, heat, insects and birds.
Types of siding
Siding usually comes in vinyl, aluminum or steel. Wood and concrete siding exist but are uncommon in Southern Ontario. The right choice depends on your home’s look, and if you’re building, we’ll help you decide.
Vinyl
Vinyl comes in many colours, most popularly white and beige. It’s lightweight, impact resistant and easy to maintain, resists dents and scratches better than aluminum, and is breathable, letting trapped vapour escape.
Aluminum
Aluminum siding is lightweight and a long-standing choice for Ontario homes.
Steel
Steel comes in fewer colours but offers superior protection and suits larger buildings. It doesn’t dent easily, is easy to repair and can last over 30 years with proper maintenance.
