What is slate roofing?
A slate roof is a covering made from smooth pieces of natural stone. Tiles can be natural slate or a synthetic alternative, and slate is one of the longest-lasting roofing options available.
Long-term savings
Slate is one of the most impressive and most expensive roofs to install. Installed correctly, a slate roof can last over 100 years and needs minimal maintenance, so it pays back over time. Slate stands up to hard Ontario winters. It is about three times heavier than asphalt shingles and carries extra weight, such as a heavy snowfall, without trouble.
Customize your slate roof
Slate comes in thicknesses from 3/16” to 1”, known as standard to extra heavy. In Ontario, ¼” is standard. Even with standard slate you can create eye-catching patterns: a single width across the roof gives a regular pattern, while varied widths create a different look. We can create the pattern you want.
Colour your roof
Slate comes in many colours, grains and textures, grouped as unfading, semi-weathering and weathering. Unfading slate keeps its colour for years, semi-weathering changes moderately, and weathering slate changes the most. A custom blend can be used on any roof.
